13 people were killed and 19 were injured on Tuesday when a suicide bomber detonated in explosives-laden cars outside the U.N.’s mine-clearing agency and a Somali army checkpoint in Mogadishu.

According to The Telegraph, the two blasts occurred near the African Union base in the area of the Mogadishu airport. Al-Shabaab, Somalia’s Islamic extremist rebels, have already claimed responsibility for the attack. The terrorist group is waging an insurgency against Somalia’s weak U.N.-backed government in the hopes of establishing an Islamic emirate, ruled by a strict form of Islam.
