Melania Trump has been noticeably quiet since the release of her husband’s infamous 2005 audio clip and the many allegations of sexual assault against him: until now.
According to Daily Mail, Melania has sat down for her first interview since the release of the 11 year-old audio clip in which Donald Trump made lewd comments about women. Melania reportedly sat down with CNN’s Anderson Cooper as well as Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earnhardt for her first interviews since the scandal that turned the Trump campaign upside down.
In the Fox interview portion, Melania was asked if it was fair for Trump to bring up Bill Clinton’s past, as he did by bringing accusers to the debate and in his repeated speeches.
“Well, if they bring up my past, why not?” Melania shot back.
“So they – they’re asking for it?” Earnhardt asked.
“They’re asking for it,” Melania said. “They started. From the beginning of the campaign putting my – my picture from modeling days. That was my modeling days and I’m proud what I did. I worked very hard.”
Melania was then asked about the infamous audio clip.
“This is not the man that I know,” she said. “This is – we could see, as I always said, as my husband said, as well, for a successful businessman, entrepreneur, entertainer to achieving so much in his life, being in so many shows, so many tapes, it’s very hard to run for public office.”
“And he did this anyway,” Melania added. “He said, I want to help American people. I want to keep America safe. I want to bring back jobs, bring back economy, so our children, our futures will be the best way possible.”
Fox released the following statement about the interview:
“During the interview, Melania will share the conversation she had with her husband on the day she found out about the Access Hollywood tape and her reaction to his comments.
She will also discuss the recent sexual assault allegations against her husband, her advice to Trump ahead of the final debate and her thoughts on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Billy Bush and Howard Stern.”
