In the last few weeks, it looked like Donald Trump had finally silenced his haters in the GOP establishment and was moving towards an easy convention that would solidify his support among Republicans. Sadly, most of this progress has been undone in the last few days due to the controversy surrounding Trump’s comments regarding the judge overseeing his Trump University lawsuit.
Mediaite reported this week that many important Republicans have said they will not vote for Trump. According to Conservative Tribune, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt took things a step further this week when he called for the Republican Party to rewrite the convention rules so that Trump was no longer the nominee.
“It’s like ignoring stage-four cancer. You can’t do it, you gotta go attack it,” Hewitt explained. “And right now the Republican Party is facing — the plane is headed towards the mountain after the last 72 hours.”
Hewitt went on to say that though he wants to support the nominee, Trump has been causing so much damage to the Republican Party that he shouldn’t get the nomination.
“I wanna support the nominee of the party, but I think the party ought to change the nominee. Because we’re going to get killed with this nominee,” he stated.
Hewitt added that if Trump stops using his divisive rhetoric, he would have no problem with him being the nominee.
“And if Donald Trump pulls over a makeover in the next 4 to 5 weeks, great, they can keep him. It would be better if he had done so 5 weeks ago,” he stated.
Though no members of the GOP establishment have joined Hewitt in calling for this, we wouldn’t put it past them to do so. SHARE this story if you will support Trump no matter what!
