A group of militants opened fire on Wednesday night at the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul after an explosion rocked the campus.
According to Daily Mail, many American professors are currently hiding in buildings at the school along with hundreds of students as security forces rush in. Witnesses say several militants gained entry to the heavily-fortified school by using explosives.
Afghan journalist Bilal Sawary said the Kabul’s CDR rapid reaction force told him that they are dealing with a “complex” attack and that special forces are “en-route.”
“We have been notified of a complex attack on the American University on Darul-Aman Road,” said the commander of Kabul police’s quick reaction force. “We still don’t know the exact nature of the attack.”
This came after an American professor and his Australian colleague were kidnapped from the university by five masked gunman on August 8.
