The chaos following the release of troves of embarrassing emails from the Democratic National Committee has claimed it’s biggest victim yet this week as Committee CEO Amy Dacey has resigned. Dacey won’t be the last to resign, as news reports say “other personnel moves” are expected in the coming days.
According to The Washington Post, Chief Financial Officer Brad Marshall and Communications Director Luis Miranda will leave along with her just days after longtime Democratic strategist Donna Brazile took over as interim chair.
“Thanks in part to the hard work of Amy, Luis, and Brad, the Democratic Party has adopted the most progressive platform in history, has put itself in financial position to win in November, and has begun the important work of investing in state party partnerships,” Brazile said in a statement. “I’m so grateful for their commitment to this cause, and I wish them continued success in the next chapter of their career.”
Dacey was involved in one of the most damaging leaked email exchanges in which Marshall appeared to speculate about how Sen. Bernie Sanders’s Jewish heritage could be used against him. According to The Federalist Papers, he wrote that he thinks Sanders “is an atheist” and that it could make a difference in the Kentucky and West Virginia primaries.
“My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist,” Marshall wrote in an email.
“AMEN,” Dacey responded.
Dacey has already been hired by a Democratic lobbying firm. Before joining the DNC, she worked for EMILY’s List, an organization that tries to elect female Democrats.
