An 18 year-old Muslim suicide bomber ran into the St. Yoseph Church in Medan, Sumatra this week armed with an ax, but things didn’t quite go according to plan for him.
Mad World News reported that ISIS affiliate Ivan Armadi Hasugian ran into the church during Sunday mass before he realized that his homemade bomb was on fire, meaning he could not detonate it. As the bomb burned on his back, Hasugian pulled out his ax and his knife in an attempt to hack the 60 year-old priest Albert Pandiangan to death.
Unfortunately for the terrorist, the Christian congregants weren’t about to let him kill their priest.
As soon as Hasugian slashed Pandiangan’s arm, the congregants jumped up and tackled the wannabe jihadist to the ground.
“Somebody tried to kill the priest by pretending to attend the church service and at that time tried to explode something, like a firecracker, but the firecracker didn’t explode, it only fumed,” chief detective Nur Fallah said.
“He sat in the same row as I did… I saw him fiddling with something in his jacket, and then I heard a small explosion and he immediately ran to the podium,” recounted eyewitness Markus Harianto Manullan.
Police arrived to find Hasugian handcuffed and covered in blood. Officers said he appeared to be dazed, clearly shocked that his plan had failed.
