Last week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made headlines when he refused to stand as the national anthem played before a game. Within 24 hours, fans were burning his jersey to let him know that what he did was wrong.
Kaepernick tried to defend his shameful show of disrespect by race-baiting.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he said of his protest. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
Now, Kaepernick’s disrespectful act has come back to bite him in a big way. The Political Insider reported that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has just broken his silence about the scandal to publicly turn his back on Kaepernick.
“Well my personal thoughts are… I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don’t live in a perfect society. We live in an imperfect society,” Goodell told USA Today. “On the other hand, we believe very strongly in patriotism in the NFL. I personally believe very strongly in that. I think it’s important to have respect for our country, for our flag, for the people who make our country better; for law enforcement, and for our military who are out fighting for our freedoms and our ideals.”
We can only hope that Goodell decides to ban Kaepernick from the NFL. SHARE this story if you want him to do that!
