A middle school teacher from Fresno, California was arrested this week and charged with multiple sex crimes after police learned she had been engaging in an inappropriate relationship with one of her students.
Justine Nelson, 30, was a part-time teacher at Tenaya Middle School when she began a sexual relationship with the 14 year-old last spring when the boy was a student in her class. Daily Mail reported that Nelson, who is married, performed a sex act on the boy on three separate occasions. In addition, she sent nude photos of herself to the boy during the summer.
Nelson was caught after the boy posted her nude photos online. The photos quickly went viral among students, prompting the vice principal to call the police.
“The whole thing is sad. Just what she did, totally sad. That victim will be impacted for a long time, it’s just ridiculous,” said Lieutenant Joe Gomez of the Fresno Police Department.
ABC 30 reported that Nelson was arrested, booked, and released on Thursday. During that time, she confessed to police that she did indeed have an inappropriate relationship with the child. She is now facing one count of oral copulation with a minor and two counts of possession of child pornography.
“Allegations of this nature are extremely disturbing and do not reflect the high professional standards the district expects from staff,” the Fresno Unified School District said in a statement. “In the event these allegations are proven factual, the district will take swift and appropriate action.”
