Duck Dynasty fans are in mourning today after A&E announced that the beloved conservative reality show has been cancelled after 11 seasons.
USA Today reported that the Robertson family, who star in the show, announced that the show’s final episode will end in April during a video segment before the premiere of the new season last night. A&E released the following statement to accompany the video:
“After five years, 130 episodes and one of the biggest hits in the history of cable, the Robertson family and A&E jointly decided that Duck Dynasty, the series, will come to an end after this season.”
New episodes of the current season will run through January 18. The show will then return in March to air the final seven episodes until the finale on April 12.
Duck Dynasty became a massive hit after it premiered in 2012. By 2013, it was drawing in 10 million viewers an episode, but ratings have declined in recent seasons. New episodes in August were averaging only 1.5 million viewers, so the writing was on the wall.
