Model and activist Iskra Lawrence shocked commuters on a New York City subway train this morning by stripping off her clothes and giving them a lecture about body-shaming. Unfortunately for her, however, her message wasn’t received as well as she hoped it would be.
Daily Mail reported that the 26 year-old curvy model took off her clothes to deliver a speech about body-shaming, imploring her fellow passengers to “celebrate difference.” Lawrence told the passengers that she wanted to “make herself vulnerable” to show how far she’d come on her “journey” of self-acceptance. She said she grew up “hating” herself because she didn’t the “small standards of beauty” the media inflicts on our society.
“I strip down to share my voice and use my power to start a conversation about the relationship with ourselves and each other,” Lawrence wrote on Instagram when she posted the video.
“We all have our own unique power and sharing it with the world is something really special and hopefully the more we can listen and learn from each other we become more open minded and less judgmental,” she added. “At the end of the day we are all one race, the human race and we are all equal.”
While some applauded Lawrence, others chastised her for stripping down for no reason.
