Throughout the presidential election, Donald Trump repeatedly promised that he would hire a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton and possibly put her in prison. That’s why it came as an unwelcome surprise to many of his supporters today when Trump confidante and likely press secretary Laura Ingraham suggested that his administration might not follow her through with locking her up after all.
“I think there are a lot of people who just want to turn the page and move past this very rancorous time in American politics,” Ingraham said from Trump Tower on Thursday morning, according to Daily Mail.
Though Ingraham is on the short list to be Trump’s press secretary, she claimed she was “not speaking for the administration” when she said she doesn’t think “most Americans want to spend months and months and month going through what the Clintons did or didn’t do at the foundation or with the private server.”
“If I were on the outside commenting on it, I’d probably say let’s just move forward and get beyond that,” Ingraham said. “I think a lot of people want to turn the page and they want a fresh start.”
Though Ingraham says she isn’t speaking for Trump’s administration, the fact that she is in talks with them and is so tight with the president-elect means it’s very likely that she is indeed saying what he is thinking.
