Earlier this month, officials at Hampshire College in Massachusetts made the controversial decision to ban American flags from their campus after students began burning flags to protest Donald Trump’s presidential win.
Last weekend, a group of veterans who were outraged by this decision decided to do something about it.
Conservative Tribune reported that over 1,000 veterans showed up at the Hampshire College campus on Sunday to protest the banning of the American flag. The veterans reportedly chanted “Raise that flag!” and “USA!” while waving hundreds of flags they brought with them to their protest. Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno joined the veterans protesting on the campus.
“For the students here and the president and board of trustees have risen from what the veterans sacrificed, this flag and not to fly the flag on this campus if you were in some other countries around the world it would be handled very, very differently,” Sarno said, according to WWLP-TV.
Veterans spoke out to slam college officials for their decision.
“They took down my flag, they have a right to that, I’m here to defend their right to do that, but I want them to understand how bad that hurts me,” veteran Jerry Maguire said.
Hampshire College President Jonathan Lash tried to defend his actions in a statement on the school’s website, saying the school’s intention was to “create the space for meaningful and respectful dialogue across the many perspectives represented in our community.” He acknowledged that their decision ended up having the opposite effect.
We applaud these veterans for letting liberals know that disrespecting the American flag will NOT be tolerated in Donald Trump’s America. SHARE this story if you ALWAYS stand with veterans and the American flag!
