Liberals have been whining about “fake news” ever since Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the presidential election, making it seem like they are the only ones who are victimized by it. This week, however, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin found herself the victim of a fake news story that was perpetrated by the mainstream media.
According to Conservative Tribune, multiple media outlets reported on a Newslo story that claimed that Palin called for the boycotting of the Mall of America in Minnesota because it had hired a black Santa. The story made various outrageous claims about Palin, including that she said, “The Holy Book always said Santa Claus was white.”
Thankfully, the Associated Press got ahold of the story and was able to quickly prove that it was fake. Though Newslo had said that the Star Tribune originally ran the story, that publication’s managing editor said that none of her reporters had ever spoken with Palin about the mall’s hiring of the black Santa.
If the mainstream media had looked closer at Newslo, they would have seen that the site admits to reporting false news. In fact, it even claims that it helps readers decipher what is true and what is fake by the use of its own fact checker button. When one clicks on the “fact checker” button, the site admits that the Palin story was completely made up.
“Newslo is the first hybrid News/Satire platform on the web. Readers come to us for a unique brand of entertainment and information that is enhanced by features like our fact-button, which allows readers to find what is fact and what is satire,” the site read.
Palin immediately fired back on Facebook, linking to the Breitbart article that declared the story to be fake and saying, “Dear Democrats, this is what ‘fake news’ actually looks like, and I guarantee you no Trump voter fell for this.”
