Fox News fans were surprised to learn this week that popular host Kimberly Guilfoyle is being considered by Donald Trump to be his White House Press Secretary.
Politico reported that Guilfoyle was spotted at Trump Tower last week having lunch with top advisors on Trump’s transition team. Though she did not meet with Trump personally, she is scheduled to return to Trump Tower to meet with him this week.
Trump is expected to name the last of his White House’s top staffers by the end of the week.
Though Republican National Committee and Trump transition spokesman Sean Spicer is considered the top contender for the Press Secretary position, some are quietly pushing for Guilfoyle to be given the position. She is a Latina who is also a former assistant district attorney in San Francisco. Some of Trump’s closest advisors have argued that as a Latina, Guilfoyle would be a more sympathetic face in talking about some of Trump’s more divisive stances on immigration and pro-life issues.
“Do you want a white male representing the White House when half the country thinks the President is a misogynist?” said a Guilfoyle champion on Trump’s team. “Who do you want talking about Immigration? A Latino. When you have to make decisions about pro-life justices, do you want a man or a woman?”
Guilfoyle is close friends with Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner. She also has a good relationship with the president-elect’s chief strategist Steve Bannon, his former deputy campaign manager, David Bossie, and his finance team adviser Anthony Scaramucci.
Fox News and Trump’s transition team declined to comment on this.
