22 people were shot in Chicago, Illinois this past weekend as the city continues to struggle with an unfathomable amount of violence. Two of the victims died of their injuries.
The first fatal shooting took place at 7:45 p.m. Friday, when police responded to calls of gunshots in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side. There, they found a 34-year-old man who had been shot in the head and thigh. He was rushed to the local hospital, where he died of his injuries.
The second one occurred around 1:40am Saturday when a man sitting in a vehicle at a Goose Island neighborhood gas station was shot in the head by an unknown assailant. He died of his wounds at the scene.
One of the injured gunshot victims has been identified as an off-duty Cook County sheriff’s courts deputy.
Though this weekend was terrible for the city, it was nothing compared to what happened in Chicago the week before. Allen B. West reported that 53 people were shot there the previous weekend, 6 of them fatally.
A staggering 275 people have been shot in Chicago the first four weeks of this year alone. Though Chicago was his so-called “home city,” Barack Obama never acknowledged the violence there. Donald Trump, however, took to his twitter last week to say something must be done.
If Chicago doesn’t fix the horrible “carnage” going on, 228 shootings in 2017 with 42 killings (up 24% from 2016), I will send in the Feds!
